The Story of Inyo

by W.A. Chalfant - 1922:

The purpose of this book is to preserve the historical record of Inyo County prior to 1870 when a printed record was established. In the late 1920s, many pioneers were still alive when data collection began for such a purpose. The author had the good fortune of knowing every early-day Inyoite who lived in the county. There was no hesitation on their part in offering their assistance. Interviews with those who had moved out of the area and correspondence with those who returned elicited their memories. Each narrative was checked and rechecked with other sources and with each other. Major matters since 1870 have been discussed by subjects rather than by order of occurrence.
