Cactus in the Mojave Desert

Foxtail Cactus

Escobaria vivipara var. alversonii

Generally one stem, about 2-3 inches in diameter, 6-8 inches tall. Produces pink or magenta flower in May or June. Prefers sandy or rocky areas, usually in creosote bush scrub communities.
